(G)I-DLE on Queendom

(Updated August 2020)

Queendom was a television show that aired on MNET in 2019. It featured 6 artists: soloist Park Bom (former 2NE1), AOA, MAMAMOO, Lovelyz, Oh My Girl, and (G)I-DLE. They competed against each other in various performance missions, with the winner earning a special comeback show on MNET as the prize. (G)I-DLE eventually finished in 3rd place.

NOTES: I have not actually watched Queendom in its entirety, so I don’t know anything about the creative processes behind making the stages. I’ve really only seen the performance clips, so that’s what this page focuses on.

1st Preliminary Performance – “Representative Hit Song” (Episode 2)

The teams were asked to choose their representative song and remake it for the stage. (G)I-DLE chose “Latata.”

2nd Preliminary Performance – “Cover Song” (Episode 4)

The groups were asked to choose a song by another competing group and rearrange it for their performance. (G)I-DLE chose “Fire,” which is 2NE1’s debut song. (Fellow contestant Park Bom was the main vocalist of 2NE1.)

3rd Preliminary Performance, Part One – Unit Round (Episode 7)

The main or lead vocalists of each group paired off for unit performances. Minnie was paired with Hyejeong from AOA, and they performed a cover of “Instagram” by Dean.

The main or lead dancers of each group also came together for one performance. Soojin represented (G)I-DLE. Each showed off her down dance performance (Soojin danced to “Senorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello), and then they came together to dance to “Power” by Little Mix.

3rd Preliminary Performance, Part Two – “Fan-dora’s Box” (Episode 8)

For this mission, the groups were asked to rearrange a song selected by their fans. (G)I-DLE made a “nightmare version” of “Put It Straight.”

Finale – Live Comeback Stage (Episode 10)

For the ending of Queendom, each created a new single and had their comeback stage on the live finale. (G)I-DLE’s song was “Lion.”
