NU’EST Member Profile: JR (쩨알)

Variety Show Appearances

IMPORTANT!!! I have moved to Korea since I created this blog, and I have discovered that many videos – especially ones that are uploaded by fans with English subs – have been blocked on Korean YouTube and other websites.  So unfortunately, I cannot watch most of the videos or verify the links on these pages anymore.  This also means I cannot add as many videos as before because they simply are not available in my region.  I’m sorry if you click on something and it’s no longer there, but there’s not really any way for me to check!

Episode 79
A talk show where the cast and their guests answer trivia questions together in order to be able to leave the rooftop where they film. JR appeared with Shownu (Monsta X).

You might be able to see a fully subbed episode if you’re not on Korean YouTube – if not, there seem to be a lot of subbed clips.

A trivia variety show where celebrities team up and solve quizzes chosen by the show’s viewers in a survey. The clip isn’t subbed, but you can still enjoy JR surprising cast member and Pledis label mate Seungkwan (SEVENTEEN) with his aegyo.

I can’t find any subbed clips of this show, but I did embed the official YouTube playlist in case someone wants to watch anyway.

Episode 92
A popular variety show featuring a fixed cast of well-known comedians and variety stars. It’s known for its “high school” classroom setting and promoted use of informal language.  Celebrity guests come as “transfer students” and tell stories about themselves to get to know the cast better.  Sometimes there are also other segments that feature missions or games.

Episodes 4, 6, 8, 11, and 13
A variety show with a fixed cast and celebrity guests. The players are split into two teams, playing games to win clues and find out who is holding the Master Key. If a team guesses correctly at the end of the episode, they win a prize. Ong Seongwu and Kang Daniel (two of the fixed cast members) know JR from competing on Produce 101 together.

MCing and Guest Hosting

NOTE: I linked these episodes (rather than embedding them) because JR appears as an MC and is therefore not the focus of the show.

  • In 2019, JR and Minhyun were the MCs for the MNET show UHSN, a reality show where international K-pop fans came to Korea to learn about Korean culture.
  • In 2018, JR was one of the MCs for JTBC variety show LAN Cable Life, which takes an in-depth look at YouTube content creators. He was originally supposed to be a special MC for the first episode, but was quickly promoted after impressing the production team. (Unfortunately, I can’t find any subbed episodes or clips).
  • Guest-hosted Battle Trip Episodes 98 and 99 (MBC) in 2018.
  • Guest-hosted Happy Together Season 4 Episode 2 (KBS) in 2018.
