    • Taemin might not be officially listed as a lead vocalist in some profiles because he wasn’t one originally, but I believe that his vocal abilities are at that level now and are reflected in SHINee’s more recent music.

Taemin’s Role in SuperM: Taemin referred to himself as a “main multi” because he could easily fill multiple positions (namely singing and dancing). I’m not sure how serious he was when he said that, but I do think it’s pretty applicable. He’s definitely the lead vocalist of SuperM, and based on their choreography, I’m going to say he’s probably acting as a main or lead dancer. It looks like he has the most center parts, but since he also has a lot of responsibility with the vocals, I think the distinction of “main dancer” probably goes to Kai.

Important Things to Know: Taemin is the one with the longest career and the most experience -both as part of a group and as a solo artist. He debuted as the maknae (youngest member) of SHINee in 2008 – at least four years before any of the other SuperM members. Since he was 14 when he started his career, he has been in the K-pop industry for almost half of his life. In SHINee’s early years, Taemin was well-known and highly praised for his amazing dance skills. He is considered by many to be the best idol dancer of the 2nd generation, and is still often named as one of the best current idol dancers. He began his solo career in 2014, and has released several hit songs both in South Korea and Japan. (I really don’t follow Japanese music, but it’s my understanding that he is quite popular in Japan.) As most of the other SHINee members are fulfilling their military service – or just returning – Taemin is currently focusing on his activities with SuperM and as a soloist.
