SuperM Member Profile

TAEYONG (태용)

Taeyong is a member of NCT, and his main subunit currently is NCT 127. You can look at the NCT profile here, and the NCT 127 profile here. NCT and WayV members’ individual activities are also grouped here.

  • Real Name: Lee Taeyong (이태용)
  • Birthday: July 1, 1995
  • Zodiac Sign: Cancer (Western) / Boar (Eastern)
  • From: Seoul, South Korea
  • Positions in NCT 127: Leader, main rapper, main dancer, vocalist, visual
  • Other NCT Units: NCT U (“The Seventh Sense” in 2016, “Boss” in 2018, and “Baby Don’t Stop” with Ten in 2018)

Taeyong’s Role in SuperM: Taeyong referred to himself as a “frequent center.” I’m not sure if he was referring to NCT 127 or SuperM (or both), but I take this mean that his role in SuperM is more dance-based. He can definitely be considered at least a lead dancer, maybe even another main dancer. I’ve noticed that in all of SuperM’s singles so far, he always takes the center at the end or in the final chorus – which is a very “main dancer” type of center distribution. But since SuperM is full of dancers, it’s hard to say for certain. Much like in NCT 127, Taeyong also handles the majority of the rapping along with Mark. But with SuperM, I would say he is more clearly a lead rapper – whereas with NCT 127, I’d say he’s somewhere between main and lead depending on the song.

Important Things to Know: Taeyong was introduced to the public as a member of SM Entertainment’s trainee group SM Rookies in 2013 and gained some attention for featuring in Red Velvet’s “Be Natural” in 2014. He officially debuted with NCT U in 2016, and then returned a few months later as the leader of NCT 127. (Though it might not technically be official, he’s often considered to be the overall leader of NCT as well.) Since then, he has become one of the most recognizable members of NCT. Many of Taeyong’s individual activities are music-related (he has three SM Station songs) or dance-related (he has posted many freestyle dance routines). However, he also occasionally appears on variety shows.
