NCT 127 Comeback Review: “Limitless”

I was pretty ambivalent about NCT as a whole throughout 2016. I like “The Seventh Sense,” but “Fire Truck” just isn’t my thing. And I have no connection with NCT Dream, being at least nine years older than any given member. Basically, NCT was a group that I didn’t closely follow. “Limitless” totally changed all of that. People (including me) make fun of the fashion, but they released a really quality song. I hope that it’s grabbing other people’s attention like it did mine.

WJSN Comeback Review: “I Wish”

Cosmic Girls has returned with a bright concept!  Being pretty new, the rookie group has yet to land on a solid image. So far they’ve had cutesy debut “Mo Mo Mo,” sexy “Catch Me,” and the ethereal “Secret.”  The latter was one of my favorite releases of 2016, so I was excited to see what they brought to the table. I’ll try my best not to compare the two too much, but it’s going to be really difficult.

AOA Comeback Review: “Excuse Me” and “Bing Bing”

2017 barely started before AOA dropped some new music.  And they gave us two title tracks, no less! I like AOA’s songs and my boyfriend is a big fan (what a surprise), so both of us were anticipating this comeback.

My Favorite Songs of 2016: October – December

Maybe it’s because these songs were released more recently and I haven’t had time to get bored with them, but I feel like a lot of my favorite songs of the year were released in the fall.  That is to say, a lot of songs that I would probably put in my Top 10 of 2016. I thought that there were a lot of comebacks in the summer, but I was wrong.  There were so many comebacks and so much to listen to!  It seems that this has continued into January, and I already have a long list of songs that I really like.

*Note: The month that these songs are listed under refers to the period where I listened to it the most, not the actual release date (since some were released in the final days of the month).

My Favorite Songs of 2016: July – September

This summer had a lot of fun releases that perfectly suited the season.  It was dominated by girl groups, with the likes of Gfriend, Wonder Girls, I.O.I., and Red Velvet taking a lot of music show wins.  My personal list of favorites for summer is female-dominated, so go girl power!

My Favorite Songs of 2016: April – June

Around this time, I realized that there was no going back: I was officially a fan of K-pop. So I embraced it.  I watched even more MVs and variety shows. I got back into dancer mode and started to teach myself choreography from various dance practices (girl groups only so far). And I went to KCON France, which was a couple days before my birthday!  This spring had a lot of great new music, as well as comebacks from some of my favorite artists.

My Favorite Songs of 2016: January – March

Happy 2017! Time to get cracking on this blog. It’s been over half a year since I originally set this up, and I stupidly did it while I was still finishing school (practically guaranteeing that I wouldn’t have time to work on it).  But this is a new year, and my New Year’s resolution is to actually start a blog and keep it going.

I’ve been into K-pop for almost a year now.  When I get into something – especially something media related like music or a tv show – I have the tendency to go all-in. At this point I have gone through the discographies, filmographies, and history of pretty much every major group you could think of.  So as I approach the anniversary of the day I stumbled into all of this, I decided to start my blog by making a list of the songs that I really liked in 2016 – my first year as an official K-pop fan.
