Personally, I find Korean vowels slightly easier than consonants in terms of speaking because they’re a *little* more straightforward. In English, the pronunciation of each vowel varies wildly depending on the word and there’s not always a logical answer. Korean vowels, on the other hand, tend to have one specific sound (with a few exceptions).Continue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: A Crash Course in Hangul Vowels”

K-Pop Starter Kit: A Crash Course in Hangul Consonants
I mentioned this in my last column post, but I’ll say it again: Hangul is an incredibly essential part of the Korean language. It was created by King Sejeong during the Joseon Dynasty as a way for all Koreans to be able to read and write, and it’s one of the reasons why he’s suchContinue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: A Crash Course in Hangul Consonants”
K-Pop Starter Kit: 5 Beginner Tips for Learning Korean
Though I’m including an introduction to Korean as part of my K-pop Starter Kit, I don’t believe knowing or speaking it is necessary in order to be a K-pop fan. I’m nowhere near fluent, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying myself for over five years now. That being said, the reason I made it a monthlyContinue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: 5 Beginner Tips for Learning Korean”
K-Pop Starter Kit: June’s Topic is Now July’s Topic
Hi all! It’s the end of June (technically already July here in South Korea), and you’ve probably noticed that I didn’t make any K-pop Starter Kit posts this month. Though I started out my last update optimistic and enthusiastic about writing new content, my life seems to love getting in the way whenever I decideContinue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: June’s Topic is Now July’s Topic”

Finally, we’ve arrived at the last of the introduction posts! (I know it hasn’t been too long since Part Two went up, but I say “finally” because I’ve basically been working on these all month.) As I mentioned last time, Part Two was initially supposed to cover different aspects of the K-pop industry – however,Continue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: A Beginner’s Guide (Part Three)”
K-Pop Starter Kit: A Beginner’s Guide (Part Two)
First of all, I’m sorry this took me so long to post! I’ve literally been working on it every day for the last two weeks, but I kept thinking of things to add and it just turned out way longer than I anticipated. (SIGH) Ultimately, I just decided to split the introduction into three partsContinue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: A Beginner’s Guide (Part Two)”
K-Pop Starter Kit: A Beginner’s Guide (Part One)
There have been dedicated K-pop fans all over the world for years, but it’s amazing just how much that number has increased recently. Though there’s a lot of focus on certain groups breaking into the American music industry, K-pop’s rising popularity isn’t just limited to the United States – it’s truly going global, and it’sContinue reading “K-Pop Starter Kit: A Beginner’s Guide (Part One)”
NEW COLUMN ANNOUNCEMENT: K-Pop Starter Kit
Hi all! I’m really excited to introduce this column to you, because it’s something I’ve been planning for a very long time. I originally had this idea a while ago, but I kept putting it off because I was reformatting the blog and I didn’t have enough time to make all of the posts involved.Continue reading “NEW COLUMN ANNOUNCEMENT: K-Pop Starter Kit”
